Introduction

Hello, I’m Phuong. I’m a recent college graduate aspiring to be a writer. This blog is… well it’s a lot of things. You see I’d like to write a novel one day and I hope that one day will be soon. It’s not a simple thing to achieve but it’s something I’ve always wanted to do, and there’s no time like now to begin it. It sounds a little crazy even to myself, figuring I’ve never written anything longer than 50 pages but I hope to change that. This blog is a way for me to discipline myself to write. And to prove it, I’ve promised myself to write every day; whenever I don’t feel like working on my novel, I’ll blog and whenever I do feel like working on it, well I’ll update my progress here. Everyday, it’s a promise to myself and most importantly to my blog. And maybe a few of you who’d like to follow me on this journey.

This blog is also a reminder of why I enjoy writing (my love for storytelling, the exciting flow of creativity traveling from my brain to fingertips) and inadvertently, a reminder of why I hate writing (frustration, agony, the fear of being worthless, words that all come to mind when I’m stuck in the process of writing). Which reminds me that writing a story has never simply been the process of putting pen to paper, or in this day and age, finger to key. Ask any writer and they’ll tell you there is so much more to writing than just telling the story; its how you tell it, why you tell it, what you think you’ll get from telling it and a million other reason a writer is compelled to tell the story in the first place. Which comes back to the fact that for me, it isn’t so much about “do you have a good enough story to tell” but “how do you tell a good story?”

Hopefully, I’ll find out.
